SWEET EMOTION
I am opening this section of our column by mentioning this CD featuring ten tracks by Challenge, a band out of Los Angeles, that delights us with some semi-acoustic rock, ranging from AOR to West Coast sounds and is very reminiscent of Jonathan and Rob Lamothe, to name a few. Consisting mainly of talented vocalist Allison Lindsay, whose voice shows to be gifted with a warm and velvety timbre and guitarist Arno Verstappen, who have written and produced all of the songs on the CD. With "Acoustic Universe" Challenge displays very distinctive composing skills and manages to offer an interesting and above average full length effort. Musically, the band is very close to either Heart or Jaime Kyle and Lenita Erickson or even Jefferson Starship's most melodic moments. Such tunes as the charming, "When love finds a fool," the melancholy "Words" and the dark "How does it feel" enriched by Allison's vibrant vocals, show all the growing potential of this band.

Apro questa parte della nostra rubrica con il CD contenente ben dieci tracce dei Losangeliani Challenge che ci deliziano con del rock semi acustico che spazia dall'AOR alle sonorita west coast, rammentando le cose di Jonathan e Rob Lamothe, tanto per fare dei nomi. Capitanati dalla brava Allison Lindsay, dotata di una timbrica vellutata e calda e dal guitarplayer Arno Verstappen che firma la totalita dei brani e ne cura anche la produzione, i Challenge dimostrano di possedere in questo "Acoustic Universe" delle ottime capacita compositive, riuscendo a sfornare un prodotto molto valido ed interessante. Musicalmente la band si avvicina alle sonorita piu soft delle Heart, di Jaime Kyle e Lenita Erickson ed anche dei Jefferson Starship e songs come la suadente "When Love Finds A Fool," la malinconica "Words" e la notturna "How Does It Feel" impreziosita dalla vibrante performance di Allison Mettono in mostra tutte le ottime capacita di questa band.
